Michael Rowland, born in Hertfordshire in 1949, obtained a Diploma in Graphic Arts from AIT in 1968. He worked in packaging design before attending Elam, completing a degree in Fine Arts in 1973. He then worked in the Auckland City Art Gallery restoration department and briefly did weather maps for TVNZ before undertaking his first solo exhibition in 1975.

 

At the Waitakere City Trust Awards in 2007, Michael won First Prize in the Landscape section for “Tasman Lookout” and overall First Prize for his urban scene “Ardmore Road.”
