Brooke McIvor

Brooke McIvor’s portraiture is a study in the minute details of texture. Influenced by her recent studies of ancient painting techniques in Italy, Brooke works with oil, acrylic and tempera to impart rich colour and intricate detail into her work. A central theme in her artwork is the sport of hunting, a family tradition that has fuelled Brooke’s interest in texture and drawing from life. Her portrait subjects possess an otherworldly beauty, often adorned with an array of hunting prizes. The portrait “Lolita” also addresses the complexity of personal identity and mixed heritage with the inclusion of cultural artefacts. Since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts and winning their Main Art Award for Painting in 2010, Brooke has been working and exhibiting in Wellington. This marks her second art exhibition in Auckland.
